I wouldn’t say this is bad, but getting all the way to end took some time and patience. That wasn’t helped by more of the strange style of punctuation I encountered in another book I read recently, Pandora’s Star . On the whole, there are fascinating concepts here in some admirable science fiction, but it’s not particularly compelling. I don’t believe I cared about a single character. Pascale is given perhaps the most importance, yet she’s hardly even a person. Khouri is closer, but her story is too muddled to really feel for her.
