I absolutely loved this book. It was indescribably pleasant to lose myself in the work of someone with such a command over the language after my last reading experience. It contains so much character and personality in the guise of a memoir, with a truly interesting female protagonist who defies convention, as well a novel take on dragons. I enjoyed seeing Isabella and Jacob’s relationship develop, especially because of how it was presented as one thing at the start and then revealed to be more with time.

My only complaint is that it was too short—easily remedied by the discovery that the book was the first in a series!
