This is such an intentionally crass and vulgar movie. It’s also a profound, heartfelt, and moving depiction of the loss of innocence and the cost of growth, thanks to the magnificent craft on display in its every aspect. And, at the same time, it’s just a story about two friends meeting a woman. Alfonso Cuarón truly is a master of the art. The naturalism and the performances in this movie are stupendous—if acting is about allowing yourself to be vulnerable, then this is its zenith.
